Hobsons Bay goes off the grid with multiple power outages

Residents and businesses went off the grid on Saturday night with multiple power outages reported across Hobsons Bay.

The first outage was reported around 6pm with electricity distributor Jemena confirming problems in Newport, Spotswood, Williamstown and Williamstown North.

There were approximately 2,604 customers off supply during the outage, but supply was later restored until another outage was reported around 8.20pm, with Jemena confirming problems for Williamstown and approximately 109 customers off supply.

In a statement to WAH, a spokesman for Jemena confirmed the cause of the outage, noting that there were no issues with supply or the system during the warm weather.

“Saturday’s outages were a result of a tree impacting overhead lines near Ferguson Street as a result of high winds,” they said.
