Two men arrested in Newport after police respond to reported stabbing


Victoria Police members and Ambulance Victoria paramedics responded to reports of a stabbing at a Newport street address on Monday night, which resulted in two men being arrested and another man taken to hospital.

It is understood three men were fighting on the street at the corner of Melbourne Road and Ross Street in Newport at about 9.30pm before a passer-by dialled Triple Zero after seeing one of the men bleeding.

Attending the scene was multiple police units from Williamstown, Altona North, Wyndham Highway Patrol and Footscray, as well as two specialised police units and the Critical Incident Response Team.

Police arrested two men of African appearance who were taken to Footscray Police Station. Paramedics attended to the third man who is believed to have fallen on the ground and injured the back of his head.

The incident remains under investigation.
