Felon flees in Ford focus following Newport carjacking

Victoria Police detectives from the Transit Crime Investigation Unit have released images of a vehicle stolen during a carjacking at a Melbourne Road railway station car park in Newport on April 23.

Investigators have been told a 27-year-old Newport man parked his Ford Focus at the railway station about 5.20am and was walking away when a male offender, armed with a metal pole, approached him.

The offender threatened the victim and made demands for his car keys. The victim handed over his keys before the offender got into the black Ford Focus sedan, with registration ZTU695, and fled north on Melbourne Road. The victim was not injured during the incident.

Police are urging anyone who may have seen the vehicle or with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at the Crime Stoppers website.
