Cop that: Man arrested after car rams into Williamstown police station

A man was arrested after ramming his car into the front gates of the Williamstown Police Station on Wednesday morning.

Victoria Police detectives from the Hobsons Bay Crime Investigation Unit are appealing for dash cam footage following an erratic driving incident in Williamstown on Wednesday, which resulted in a car ramming into Williamstown Police Station.

Investigators have been told a silver Ford ute was allegedly driving erratically along Ferguson Street on the wrong side of the road about 6am, continuing along the wrong side of the road from Victoria Street, near the railway crossing, towards Nelson Place.

The car was then involved in an alleged ramming at Williamstown Police Station just after 6am that morning, however when the alleged driver was unable to successfully penetrate the front gates it is alleged he became aggressive and produced a knife.

Police confirmed that capsicum spray was used during an arrest at the scene before a 25-year-old man was transported to hospital for a mental health assessment, whilst Williamstown Police Station continued to remain open to the public.

Anyone with information, who witnessed the car driving erratically or who may have dash cam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at the Crime Stoppers website.
