Triple Zero (000) received numerous call for a house fire on Maddox Road in Newport at about 10.30pm on Wednesday night, with Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) crews arriving on scene within minutes.
On arrival at a residential address, firefighters found an outdoor shed found well alight with exposures to two sides, with firefighters battling the blaze from both Maddox Road and Laurie Street to prevent fire spread.
Willy and Hobby understands a neighbour initially tried to extinguish the flames with a garden hose before firefighters arrived, but the fire became too intense. It’s believed the three occupants of the home were not injured.
The fire was brought under control in less than 30 minutes, with an initial assessment of the scene indicating the damage bill would be limited to a 5m by 5m shed, a boat, fence and pergola.
Victoria Police members attended the scene, blocking off Maddox Road for other emergency services. MFB crews will remain in attendance overnight, with fire investigators expected to attend during business hours.
