Hobsons Bay City Council: It’s a ‘difficult time’ and this ‘is not ideal’

Willy and Hobby is of the belief that Hobsons Bay City Council on Monday wrote to Home Care staff to inform them of the outcome of Council’s decision regarding the outsourcing of jobs.

Willy and Hobby is also of the belief that staff have been advised that Council has resolved to proceed with appointing a provider to deliver home care services under a subcontracting arrangement.

Willy and Hobby is also of the belief that Hobsons Bay City Council acknowledged the ‘difficult time’ that the tender process has been for staff, also noting that the letter was ‘not ideal’.

Speaking exclusively to Willy and Hobby, one staff member from Hobsons Bay City Council who wished to remain anonymous revealed just how ‘not ideal’ the process has really been for workers.

“We have had carers crying, pleading to Council to keep our jobs. There’s been tears and a lot of emotion. The emotions have been running high,” they said.

Willy and Hobby is also of the belief that affected workers – some with decades of service – have been told that no redundancies will be offered for what Hobsons Bay City Council is referring to as ‘redeployment’ of existing roles.

Willy and Hobby is also of the belief that Hobsons Bay City Council called a meeting for 2pm on Tuesday to address affected workers, with the meeting rescheduled at late notice, leaving workers waiting in the Council car park for more than an hour.
