Williamstown students see Ed Sheeran’s secret show

Senior students from the MDX performing arts school in Williamstown were treated to the ultimate Ed Sheeran fan experience today, after receiving an invitation to attend his secret show.

Joining thousands of other fans who managed to squeeze into the iconic Hosier Lane in Melbourne, the students were close enough to catch a glimpse of the ginger lad, which made the long queue into the laneway all worth while.

The Grammy award-winning artist performed his hit song Perfect from his Divide album, but apologised to fans for not singing more, explaining that he wanted to save his voice for the tour.

The performance was broadcasted live to the iHeartRadio Awards in the United States, as Sheeran accepted the Song of the Year for his smash hit, Shape of You.

Fans were alerted to the act via an email a few hours earlier with a “few boring but serious rules” – no phones and no photos – but it appears these rules were overlooked with hundreds of videos and photos of the performance posted on social media.

After three sold out gigs over the weekend, Sheeran will perform his final Melbourne show at Etihad stadium tonight before heading to Sydney.
