Anzac Day in Williamstown 2019
Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders “who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations” and “the contribution and suffering of all those who have served”.
The service will be preceded by a veteran’s march starting from Gem Pier, Syme Street, Williamstown. Members of the public are welcome to join but please note that only veterans and current serving members are permitted to wear medals on their left breast. All other participants may wear medals on their right breast.
The veteran’s march will be led by a lone drummer who will lead marchers to the Cenotaph on Ferguson Street in Williamstown where local school kids will conduct children’s readings prior to the commencement of the official dawn service.
The dawn service will take place at the Cenotaph on Ferguson Street, Williamstown. The service is organised by the Friends of Williamstown RSL. For further information please contact Bruce O’Brien on 0438 789 007.
At the conclusion of the dawn service a gunfire breakfast will be held right across the street at the Hobsons Bay Yacht Club on Nelson Place in Williamstown. For further information please contact the club on 9397 6393.
